Ghafoor Praises MDP Primary Turnout, Calls for Party Unity Ahead of Elections

Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, acting Chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and MP for Hanimaadhoo constituency, commended the high voter turnout during Friday’s MDP primaries for the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections. Speaking to RaajjeTV, Ghafoor emphasized that the strong participation underscores the importance of unity within the party. He praised the smooth conduct of the election, attributing it to the cooperation of all candidates. Ghafoor urged unsuccessful candidates to collaborate with the winners to achieve the party’s collective goals. The primaries, held on January 16, saw over 510 candidates vying for Local Council seats and more than 190 for WDC positions. A total of 65 ballot boxes were designated for the primary, including 14 in Malé City for atoll residents, 17 for Malé constituencies, and 34 outside the capital.
