Giraavaru Falhu Land Handover to Begin Within Three Weeks

Politics ·
The government will begin handing over land plots from the newly reclaimed Giraavaru Falhu area within the next three weeks, according to Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib. Dredging and reclamation work at the site, which began in late January, is progressing rapidly. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inspected the project's progress on March 28, accompanied by Minister Muththalib and other senior officials. Speaking to media at the site, Minister Muththalib explained that when the current administration took office, reclamation at Giraavaru Falhu was already partially complete. He noted the previous government had allocated roughly 5,000 plots from the area before reclamation was finished. The current government has since revised development plans. It moved 1,100 plots originally slated for Giraavaru Falhu to a section of neighboring Gulhifalhu that was initially meant for port development. Minister Muththalib stated the original Giraavaru Falhu plan allocated too many plots for effective urban development, creating a space shortage that necessitated additional reclamation. Once the current reclamation phase is complete, the minister assured that land surveying, registration, and handover to recipients will start immediately. Development of essential infrastructure—including water, sewerage, electricity networks, and roads—will also commence at the earliest opportunity.
