Good Health a Blessing for Worship, Not Just Disease Prevention: Friday Khutba

Local News ·
In today’s Friday Khutba delivered in mosques across all inhabited islands of the Maldives, worshippers were reminded that the primary purpose of maintaining good health is not merely to stay away from diseases. Instead, it is a valuable opportunity granted by Allah Almighty for worship and performing good deeds. The Khutba, dedicated to the topic “Taking Care of Health,” emphasized that good health has been bestowed to serve Allah, establish prayer, earn halal sustenance, show respect to parents, and perform good deeds. It also highlighted the importance of consuming proper and halal food to strengthen the body. The Khutba noted that the human soul is a noble trust from Allah, and one should not throw oneself into destruction nor intentionally harm the body or neglect necessary treatment. It reminded attendees that strength and youth are not permanent, as old age and weakness will eventually arrive, urging them to prioritize protecting their health. It pointed out that many bodily functions operate continuously without pause, yet their value is only realized when they falter, calling for constant gratitude for this blessing and obedience to Allah. Concluding with a Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the Khutba stated that two blessings many people are heedless of are “health and free time,” and questions regarding these blessings will be asked on the Day of Judgment. Muslims across the country were urged to make good use of the complete health and time they have been given.
