Government Advances Plans for TIVET Centre in Fuvahmulah and Junior College in Funadhoo

The Maldives government has awarded contracts to Central Line Pvt Ltd to develop a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TIVET) Centre in Fuvahmulah City and a junior college in Funadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll. The agreements were signed on Wednesday at the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development. Permanent Secretary Aishath Hikma represented the Ministry, while Abdulla Asim, Managing Director of Central Line, signed on behalf of the company. Minister Ahmed Shafeeu outlined the government's ambitious timeline, aiming to complete the projects by the end of next year and make them operational by 2027. The Minister emphasized that these initiatives will provide crucial opportunities for youth development, positioning Fuvahmulah as an educational hub with campuses of Maldives National University (MNU) and Islamic University of Maldives (IUM). Both facilities will feature modern classrooms, ICT labs, administrative areas, and student-centric amenities, aiming to reduce geographical barriers to higher education and foster local development.
