Government Completes 93% of Pay Harmonisation for State Employees

The government has completed the pay harmonisation process for 93 percent of state employees, Finance Minister Moosa Zameer announced on Tuesday. Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office, Minister Zameer said the government has instructed that the remaining percentage be completed as soon as possible, with final preparations already underway. The National Pay Framework aims to standardise salaries and allowances across all government agencies. The new system is designed to reduce reliance on overtime pay, encourage efficient working hours, and improve productivity. "This framework aims to improve incomes, promote work-life balance, and support a healthier society," the Ministry of of Finance and Public Enterprises said in a statement. Over 20,000 government employees will see positive changes under the new pay framework. The ministry confirmed that any employee whose salary decreases after the change due to migration will receive a migration allowance to compensate, in line with the relevant guidelines. The harmonisation process represents a significant step in the government's public sector reform agenda, seeking to create a more transparent and equitable compensation system across all government agencies.
