Government Extends Housing for All Deadline to June 15 for Applicants
Politics ·
The government has extended the application deadline for land and flats under the "Housing for All" policy to June 15 at 23:59. The decision aims to accommodate citizens facing logistical challenges during the Eid holiday period.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, the extension follows public feedback indicating that many potential applicants are currently traveling for the holidays. Additionally, the temporary closure of government offices during this period has hindered access to the essential documentation required to complete the application process.
The ministry has urged all applicants to be diligent in their submissions. To avoid disqualification or delays, the government reminded citizens to ensure that all forms are correctly completed and that every required document is uploaded through the official portal. Applicants are specifically advised to verify that the submission process is fully finalized before the new deadline.
The "Housing for All" scheme represents a significant expansion of the state's residential infrastructure, offering a total of 15,000 land plots and 7,900 housing units. The policy utilizes a tiered allocation system to address the specific needs of different demographics.
For those residing in the capital, 4,000 flats are reserved specifically for Male’ residents, while another 2,400 units are earmarked for city residents within special categories and designated groups. To support those from the outer atolls who have migrated to the capital, 1,500 flats have been allocated for individuals from other islands currently living in Male’.
This initiative is part of a broader government strategy to alleviate the chronic housing shortage in the capital and provide sustainable land ownership opportunities for Maldivians across the archipelago.
