Government Launches Training to Ensure Legal Compliance in State Construction Projects

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has launched a comprehensive training programme to familiarise state institutions and state-owned enterprises with national building laws and regulations. The initiative aims to standardise the execution of public works and ensure strict legal compliance across all state-funded projects. The inaugural session, held at the former Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works building, brought together key personnel responsible for overseeing construction initiatives. The two-day programme is designed to bridge knowledge gaps among officials who manage the planning and implementation of infrastructure throughout the Maldives. At its core, the initiative seeks to streamline the delivery of state projects by reducing bureaucratic delays and minimising legal complications. By equipping employees with a thorough understanding of the Construction Act and its associated regulations, the Ministry intends to foster higher standards of accountability and efficiency in public spending. Participants are receiving detailed guidance on critical administrative processes, including the procedures for securing building permits, the approval of architectural drawings, and the issuance of construction licenses.
