Government Opens Category 3 Applications for Binveriyaa Housing Scheme Until Month End

Politics ·
The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has opened applications for Category 3 of the Binveriyaa housing scheme, giving eligible citizens until the end of this month to apply. This latest phase expands the government's broader "Housing for All" initiative, which seeks to provide sustainable and accessible living solutions for Maldivians. According to the official government Gazette, Category 3 is specifically designed for single applicants who wish to relinquish previously allocated land to file new, separate applications for either a land plot or a flat. To accommodate different needs, the Ministry has divided Category 3 into two distinct paths. The first allows single applicants to apply for both land and flats under the scheme. The second path is tailored for joint applicants who prefer to file separate requests for land and residential flats. The Binveriyaa Scheme is structured across three tiers to address diverse demographic needs. Category 1 serves those who previously submitted joint applications and received land. Category 2 is reserved for citizens who already hold a flat through government social housing but were previously ineligible for Binveriyaa. Category 3 focuses on providing flexibility for those wanting to reorganize their application status. Successful applicants under this initiative will receive land plots in Rasmale', with each plot measuring 1,250 square feet. This ambitious project aims to distribute a total of 15,000 land plots and 7,900 flats, marking one of the most significant housing distributions in the country's history. The "Housing for All" policy was first unveiled in November last year, with official applications opening in January. The introduction of Category 3 demonstrates the government's willingness to adjust its framework based on public feedback and consultations, ensuring the scheme remains responsive to the actual needs of the population. Citizens interested in these opportunities must ensure their submissions are completed before the month-end deadline to be considered for the initial project phase.
