Government Opens Housing Applications for People with Disabilities in Greater Malé

Politics ·
The government has opened a dedicated application window for people with disabilities to apply for housing under its ‘Housing for All’ policy. From April 1 until 11:59 p.m. on April 30, eligible individuals can submit applications through the Family Housing Programme via the dedicated online portal. The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure stated that this separate priority category was initially announced with a simplified process, later revised in February to ease eligibility criteria. To qualify, applicants must have lived in the Greater Malé area for at least five consecutive years. Additional eligibility will be assessed based on financial situation, disability status, and recent treatment history in the Greater Malé region. The ministry has published the specific documents required for this application category in an official gazetted notice, aiming to ensure priority housing access for people with special needs. A total of 100 flats have been reserved for this initiative. Applications must be submitted through the boahiyaavahikan.housing.gov.mv portal before the end-of-month deadline.
