A total of 110 children under state care have been placed with families since the current government took office, Social and Family Development Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham announced on Monday. The minister shared the update during a press conference held at the President’s Office, highlighting the progress of the ‘Family for Every Child’ initiative. From November 2023 to December 2025, the program has successfully reunited children with their birth families or placed them with foster families. The minister noted that volunteer families have shown exceptional kindness and respect toward the children. Additionally, the government has focused on equipping children with practical skills for daily life and future employment, with 23 children enrolled in internship programs and around 40 receiving life-skills training this year. As of September 30, 156 children remain under state custody, with the government prioritizing family-based care over institutionalization.
