Economic and Transport Minister Mohamed Saeed has stated that over the past two years, the government has successfully secured investments for small, medium, and large businesses, achieving significant progress. Speaking at the award ceremony of 'Maldives Expo 2026' held on Saturday, Minister Saeed highlighted the President's special vision to transform the Maldivian economy into new heights. He noted that despite challenges, the President has been working day and night to tap into opportunities available both locally and internationally.
Minister Saeed emphasized the crucial role of the country's productive citizens in the economy, stating that the President envisions a creative economy contributing 15 percent of the Maldives' GDP by 2030. He said the government's efforts have led to investments from the largest to the smallest businesses, ensuring benefits across the board.
This year's exhibition is expected to be the largest and most comprehensive ever held in the Maldives. It will officially open tomorrow, featuring 600 participants showcasing 4,400 products, a sharp increase from last year's 240 participants and 2,467 products. The minister noted that participants come from all atolls of the Maldives.
Minister Saeed also announced the expansion of the exhibition districts from five to seven, with the addition of a 'Visitor Economy' district and an 'International District'. He described the Visitor Economy district as a door opening to all investments in the tourism sector, from the largest to the smallest. The International District will allow exposure to unique innovations from abroad and provide opportunities to network and gather information.
The minister further stated that efforts are underway to bring constructive benefits from abroad to the Maldives by 2040, and that this government will continue working for the future and prosperity of the citizens.
