Government Signs 14 Contracts to Build Mosques and Quranic Centers Nationwide
Politics ·
The government has formalized agreements with private contractors to deliver 14 new religious infrastructure projects across the Maldives. The signing ceremony at the Islamic Centre in Malé on March 19 advances a key administration pledge to decentralize religious and educational resources.
A core component of the new projects is the establishment of regional branches of the National Centre for the Holy Quran. Contracts for these facilities were awarded to Wenza Company Private Limited for islands including Gadhdhoo, Maradhoo, and Maafushi; to Ayyabe Partners for Kudahuvadhoo and Veymandoo; to White Link Private Limited for Fonadhoo; and to Afami Maldives Private Limited for Manadhoo, Velidhoo, and Dhuvaafaru.
The initiative also includes the construction of new mosques. Afami Maldives will build a 500-capacity mosque in Maamendhoo, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, and a 300-person mosque in Feevah, Shaviyani Atoll. Furthermore, SAS E Construction Private Limited will develop a comprehensive Islamic Centre in Eydhafushi, Baa Atoll, described by officials as a cornerstone for the island's community.
These 14 projects are part of a broader campaign encompassing over 90 ongoing developments, including Waqf properties and regional religious hubs. The effort underscores the special priority the administration places on facilitating religious affairs and expanding access to Islamic resources beyond the capital.
