Government to Train 1,000 Youths Through Expanded National Service Programme This Year

The Maldivian government plans to launch two additional batches of the National Service Programme this year, aiming to train up to 1,000 young people within a single year. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced the expansion during the 'Nation Chat: With the President' programme, describing the initiative as a cornerstone of the nation's human resource development strategy. President Muizzu emphasized that cultivating a disciplined youth population is critical for national progress. He stated that the programme is designed to mold Maldivian youth into individuals who balance a deep respect for Islamic values with an unwavering devotion to their country. By equipping the next generation of stewards with these core values, the government aims to secure the long-term interests of the Maldives. Since its inception in October last year, the programme has already seen significant participation. Over 680 students have entered the initiative across two batches, with more than 600 successfully completing their training. The President noted a high employment rate among the first batch of 300 graduates, with many transitioning into the Maldives National Defence Force and the Police Service, while others have found success in the private sector. The training curriculum is comprehensive, focusing on religious observance, personal hygiene, self-discipline, and character development. Participants and their families have reported transformative results; students have cited improved time management, increased self-confidence, and a renewed commitment to social responsibility and prayer. Beyond personal growth, the programme provides a direct professional pathway. Graduates receive employment opportunities across various government institutions, bridging the gap between youth training and meaningful public service careers. President Muizzu expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Defence, collaborating state institutions, and the parents whose support has been vital to the programme's implementation. He reaffirmed that the initiative's versatility in preparing youth for diverse career paths remains a key priority for the administration.
