Government Will Do What It Takes to Protect Citizens' Rights, Says MP Ibrahim Didi

In a parliamentary session discussing amendments to the Tax Administration Act, Feydhoo Dhekunu constituency MP Ibrahim Didi, commonly known as IB, assured that the current government will take all necessary measures to safeguard citizens' rights. The bill, submitted by Funadhoo constituency MP Mohamed Mamdhooh, aims to reform the tax system. MP Didi highlighted that small businesses have suffered greatly under the current tax enforcement, with their bank accounts being frozen, while large entities have exploited administrative loopholes to evade hundreds of millions of rufiyaa in taxes, a practice he said was common under previous governments. He expressed concern that the state is losing revenue due to these loopholes and administrative issues, and that previous administrations had failed to address them. 'These are not easy tasks for any administration,' Didi said. 'That is why previous governments left them undone. But I am confident that this government will do whatever is necessary for the rights of the people.' He further stated that citizens want a simple and transparent system that ensures the state receives its due revenues while protecting their rights. The proposed amendments are expected to close existing loopholes and improve tax collection.
