Hajja Wins North Machchangolhi MDP Primary, Aiko Congratulates with Democratic Spirit

Khadheeja 'Hajja' Mohamed has secured the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket for the North Machchangolhi constituency after a decisive victory in the primary elections. Hajja defeated incumbent Malé City Councilor Mohamed Saif 'Aiko' Fathih by a significant margin, securing 85 votes against Aiko's 32. Following the results, Aiko graciously congratulated Hajja on her victory, setting aside campaign rivalries and demonstrating democratic sportsmanship. This marks a notable moment in MDP's internal dynamics, as Aiko, originally elected on an MDP ticket, had previously joined The Democrats amid internal disputes before returning to the party. Former Presidents Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Mohamed Nasheed have since urged MDP members to unite behind the successful candidates to ensure victory in the upcoming elections.
