Hassan Zihán, who spoke about burning state offices, detained for another 14 days
Local News ·
Hassan Zihán, a former Deputy Minister of Transport, has been detained for an additional 14 days by court order after his initial 15-day detention period expired. Zihán was arrested on the night of last month's 20th after posting on Facebook why "we are not allowed to burn" the Supreme Court, the President's Office, and the People's Majlis, adding that it would be "fun." The post referenced a news report about disturbances in Albania where the Supreme Court was burned. Zihán later deleted the post. He was taken into custody in Fuvahmulah and has been held for investigation. Zihán was removed from his deputy minister post in 2024 and has since been critical of the government. Prior to that appointment, he served as a Naval Architect First Lieutenant in the MNDF.
