HDC Launches Largest Atoll Housing Project with 2,000 Units in Kulhudhuffushi

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is expanding its operations nationwide to implement the government's housing policy, beginning with its largest atoll-based project to date. Managing Director Ali Zuhair inaugurated a 2,000-unit development in Kulhudhuffushi City, marking a significant shift for the state-owned developer beyond the greater Malé region.
Zuhair described the project as a key milestone, leveraging HDC's 25 years of experience, which includes major undertakings like the land reclamation of Hulhumalé. The corporation will now use this expertise to support the practical rollout of national housing strategies across the islands.
The expansion follows directives from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who tasked HDC with developing a total of 3,960 housing units across 10 islands. Projects will range from 50 to 2,000 units per location, with the Kulhudhuffushi initiative prioritized for this year.
The development in Kulhudhuffushi will feature 13 towers, each 14 storeys high, containing 1,856 modern three-bedroom apartments. Each apartment will measure 900 square feet. The project is also designed to facilitate and support private housing development in the area.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for his continued efforts to resolve the housing challenges faced by Maldivian citizens,” Zuhair stated during the ceremony. He emphasized the corporation's commitment, noting, “This marks our first major undertaking on an island outside Hulhumalé. We remain committed to completing and delivering this project within the agreed timeframe.”
