Heavy rain has caused flooding in Male', the capital of the Maldives. According to the Maldives Meteorological Service, 75 millimeters of rain fell in Male' between 7 PM and 10 PM on Wednesday. The heavy downpour led to waterlogging in several streets and neighborhoods. The Meteorological Service reported that the past 24 hours have seen heavy rain with thunder across various parts of the country, particularly in the south during the morning and in central regions from the evening. The flooding prompted a joint operation by the MNDF Fire and Rescue Service and the Maldives Police Service. Fire and Rescue teams have set up pumping stations in different areas of Male' to drain the water, while police have been placing sandbags to prevent water from entering homes. The Meteorological Service has warned that the west monsoon is strengthening, and cloud formations in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are likely to bring continued heavy rain for the next three days. Authorities urge the public to remain cautious.
