Heavy Rain Expected Across Maldives in Next 24 Hours: Met Office

Local News ·
The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has forecast heavy rainfall across the entire country in the next 24 hours, due to cloud formations in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. In a post on X, the Met Office stated that the westerly monsoon is strengthening over the Maldives region, and active cloud bands from the west are moving over the atolls. As a result, scattered rain with heavy downpours is expected in some islands. The office also warned of strong winds and rough seas, particularly in the central and northern atolls, which are expected to persist for the next three days. The Met Office advised mariners to stay updated with the latest weather information and take necessary precautions. Meanwhile, heavy rain has already caused significant flooding in the Greater Male' area, with the military deployed to pump out water.
