Heavy rain floods large parts of Malé, MNDF conducts drainage operations

Local News ·
Heavy, continuous rainfall since sunset on October 21 has caused significant flooding across large areas of Malé, the capital of the Maldives. Many streets in the city are submerged, prompting the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) to begin drainage operations. The National Meteorological Service has forecast further heavy rain across the entire country for the next 24 hours, with adverse weather conditions expected to persist for the next three days. Authorities have urged residents to take precautions, including placing sandbags at doorways to prevent water from entering homes, moving valuables to higher ground, and securing roofs against strong winds. Mariners have also been advised to remain vigilant of the weather conditions.
