The Maldives government has initiated the process to open helicopter services for proposals. The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation announced that commercial operators will be invited to provide helicopter services across the country's atolls, focusing on medical evacuations and search and rescue operations. The services are expected to connect all inhabited islands, including those without airports, ensuring faster medical assistance and emergency response. Proposals are set to be submitted by November 15, 2025, with contracts awarded by March 26, 2026. The move aims to enhance the country's emergency response capabilities and improve connectivity between islands.
