Henveiru Ferry Terminal Partially Reopens Amid Boduthakurufaanu Magu Road Redevelopment

Politics ·
A section of the Henveiru Ferry Terminal has temporarily reopened for vessel embarkation and disembarkation, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announced. The area had been closed to facilitate the ongoing redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, one of Malé's primary thoroughfares. The partial reopening follows the completion of a specific segment of the quay wall. The jetty located between the Maldives Post Limited building and the Barceló Nasandhura Malé hotel is now authorized for maritime operations, providing much-needed relief for waterfront transit in the capital. Despite this development, significant portions of the area remain restricted. The paved zone stretching from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the President's Office is still cordoned off. MTCC is currently widening the roadway and relocating the quay wall further outward, a process that previously required the total closure of the terminal and the forward jetty. Officials emphasized that while the designated maritime area is accessible, the adjoining stretch of Boduthakurufaanu Magu remains an active construction site. It continues to be strictly closed to both vehicular traffic and pedestrians to ensure public safety. MTCC has urged ferry operators and passengers using the reopened sector to exercise extreme caution. All individuals operating within the vicinity are requested to follow the strict instructions provided by project personnel on-site. The redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu is currently proceeding at an accelerated pace. According to the state contractor, the company aims to complete all tasks associated with the first phase of the road development project by the end of this month.
