The road development project from Henveiru Ferry Terminal to Izzuddin Jetty in Malé is on schedule for completion by June, Construction Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib has announced.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inspected the progress on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, joined by Minister Muththalib and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) CEO Ahmed Saudee. The visit underscored the ongoing upgrades to this vital urban corridor.
Work is currently focused on the section between Henveiru Ferry Terminal and Fishermen’s Park. The road is being widened by six meters, with concurrent improvements to drainage and utility infrastructure.
“The aim is to complete the work from Henveiru Terminal to Fishermen’s Park within one month, and up to Izzuddin Jetty within three months by June,” Minister Muththalib said.
The project also includes a new parking zone for 500 bicycles in front of the City Garden and a key wall along the road to enable vehicle access.
MTCC CEO Ahmed Saudee highlighted the collaboration with the Ministry of Construction. “This area has a high concentration of offices. The streets are narrow and present challenges. Despite this, the work is progressing well with the cooperation of the public,” he noted.
The stretch measures approximately 90 meters to Fishermen’s Park and 700 meters to Izzuddin Jetty, with 610 meters of drainage canals being upgraded. Once finished, the enhanced road aims to reduce congestion and improve safety in a bustling part of Malé.
