Heritage Seminars Equip Maldivian Youth with Knowledge of National History and Identity

The Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, Heena Waleed, has emphasized that educational seminars are playing a critical role in strengthening the understanding of Maldivian nationality, history, and heritage among youth and students. Speaking after attending the latest session of the “Ahuliha Nakathuge Sinthaa” seminar series, Minister Waleed noted that these events provide a vital resource for students, researchers, and historians. She highlighted that the government is prioritizing research-driven content to ensure that information regarding patriotism and national history is both accurate and accessible. Ahmed ‘Kashima’ Shakir, a senior citizen and event organizer, reported a positive public response to the series. He noted that the seminars successfully bridge generational gaps by utilizing experts to share specialized knowledge on the Maldivian language, cultural heritage, and the evolution of national identity. The most recent session featured an in-depth presentation by Command Sergeant Major Abdulla Saeed of the Maldives National Defence Force. His research focused on the independence of the Maldives, specifically examining historical defense systems and how they have evolved over the centuries. From a military perspective, Saeed analyzed the critical periods when the nation's independence was threatened and provided a detailed comparison between ancient and modern Maldivian military structures. These seminars are part of a broader government initiative to promote national awareness and ensure that the authentic history of the Maldives is preserved and passed down to future generations. By combining academic research with expert testimony, the program aims to foster a deeper sense of belonging and historical consciousness among the Maldivian people.
