High Court Files Case to Stop Illegal Shark Trade in Maldives
Politics ·
The Maldives High Court has been presented with a case to halt the illegal shark trade, a practice the government has been working to stop. This issue was brought to the court by prominent environmental activists Humaydha Abdul Gafoor and Mohamed Seeneen, who are advocating for the protection of the country's marine life. The case was submitted by the Attorney General's Office. The High Court has not yet issued a decision or taken further steps regarding the matter. The trade of sharks has been a contentious issue in the Maldives, with 60 local councils and 50 scientists urging President Mohamed Muizzu to take action. Shark protection measures have been in place since 2010, aiming to preserve the country's marine ecosystem.
