High Court judge Fathih Niyaz retires after 11 years of service

The most experienced judge of the High Court bench, Judge Fathih Niyaz, has officially retired from his judicial role. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has approved his application for retirement, allowing him to step down from his position after 11 years of service. The commission has also been reviewing other cases involving retired judges, with some being summoned for hearings, while others have been issued notices. JSC has previously investigated issues concerning Judge Niyaz, including allegations of misconduct in public prosecution and cases involving legal representation. Additionally, the Anti-Corruption Commission had initiated an investigation into financial-related corruption and money laundering involving Judge Niyaz, following which he was reinstated to his position. The High Court had previously suspended 11 judges, two of whom were reinstated. Sources indicate that pressure has been applied to retire certain judges, raising concerns about potential further dismissals. The commission has been accused of being heavily influenced by the government, with members appointed by the previous administration being removed. The issue of promoting judges to the Supreme Court, a practice that has been criticized for its lack of transparency, has also been a point of contention. The JSC has been reviewing cases involving seven judges, four of whom have been reinstated, including Judge Fathih Niyaz, who was accused of financial misconduct. The commission has also faced criticism for its handling of the suspension of certain judges, with allegations of political interference in the process.
