High Court Rejects Former President Yameen's Appeal Petition

Politics ·
The High Court Registrar has rejected a petition filed by former President Abdulla Yameen seeking to appeal a decision by the Criminal Court regarding a pre-trial motion. The petition was submitted last week Wednesday but was declined after the Registrar ruled that the matter could be decided during the trial. The Registrar said the Supreme Court had set precedents that such pre-trial matters can be addressed within the trial allowing further discussion. The Registrar also noted that the Criminal Court explained its reasoning not to admit certain evidence and that there is still opportunity to discuss evidence admissibility in the trial. The Registrar noted that rejecting evidence is less harm than admitting inadmissible. The Registrar decided the case cannot be accepted by the High Court.
