High Court Rejects Yameen's Appeal Against Evidence Examination Decision

Politics ·
The High Court Registrar has rejected a petition filed by former President Abdulla Yameen to appeal a Criminal Court decision to examine certain evidence in his ongoing bribery trial. The case involves allegations of bribery related to the leasing of R. Fushgiriv and Va. Araa. Yameen's legal team had sought to change the lower court's decision, but the Registrar ruled that the matter is not appealable at this stage. As a result, the stay on implementing the Criminal Court's evidence examination decision has been lifted. The trial in the Fushgiriv case is at the judgment stage, which has been postponed. The Araa case had previously resulted in an 11-year prison sentence for Yameen, later annulled by the High Court and sent back for review.
