Historic achievement: First coffee beans successfully grown in Maldives

Local News ·
In a historic first for the Maldives, coffee beans have been successfully grown on a tree in the country. The achievement belongs to Abdulla Ramzy, a young farmer from Addu City, widely known as the 'young farmer'. Ramzy, who is also an Ooredoo Maldives ambassador, cultivated the coffee trees on his personal farm in Meedhoo. In a Facebook post, he shared images of the coffee cherries on the trees, noting the challenges posed by the soil and climate but expressing satisfaction that all the hard work had paid off. Ramzy had previously gained attention for his dragon fruit plantation, which attracted visitors and even pre-orders. Coffee is popular in the Maldives, and the beans are typically roasted to prepare the beverage.
