Hoarafushi Council President Suspended Following LGA Investigation

Local News ·
Haa Alif Hoarafushi Council President Mohamed Waheed has been suspended following an investigation by the Local Government Authority (LGA) into multiple complaints. The LGA's decision came after instructions from Councils Minister Adam Shareef. In an announcement on Monday, the LGA stated that Waheed has been suspended, and the remaining councillors in Hoarafushi have been advised as part of administrative measures. The investigation revealed several violations, including financial irregularities related to a volleyball tournament, unauthorized expansion of land plots, improper procurement of palm trees, Eid festivities, and failure to comply with the Right to Information Act. The LGA also noted that procurement employees were improperly involved in bid committee activities and funds allocated for Eid equipment were not delivered to the council. The suspension underscores the LGA's commitment to enforcing governance and financial accountability within local councils.
