Hoarafushi Council President Suspended for Three Months Amid Allegations of Mismanagement

Politics ·
The President of the Hoarafushi Council, Mohamed Waheed, has been suspended for three months following allegations of mismanagement and violations of administrative procedures. The suspension, effective from December 8, 2025, was announced by the Local Government Authority (LGA) after an investigation revealed discrepancies in the council's operations. According to the LGA, Waheed failed to fulfill his duties and violated local governance laws. The council’s deputy president, Ahmed Imthihadh, has been appointed to lead the council in the interim. Council members and local residents expressed concerns over the suspension, with some calling it unfair. The LGA has urged the council to adhere to legal frameworks and improve governance practices moving forward.
