Hoarafushi Council President Suspended, LGA Blocks Elections
Local News ·
Hoarafushi Council President Mohamed Wahid has been suspended by the Local Government Authority (LGA) for three months, following allegations of misconduct. The LGA has also blocked his participation in upcoming local council elections, as per the findings of an investigation initiated by the Ministry of Local Government.
Wahid stated that the suspension was influenced by the LGA's report, which suggested his involvement in irregularities related to land allocation in Hoarafushi. He claimed that the suspension was a political move and denied any wrongdoing.
The investigation revealed discrepancies in the procedures followed for land allocation, which the council failed to address. The LGA emphasized that the measures were taken to ensure accountability and transparency in local governance.
This is not the first time the LGA has taken action against local council members. Several other councilors have faced similar suspensions due to alleged misconduct.
