Hoarafushi Council President Suspended Over Financial Misconduct
Politics ·
The Local Government Authority (LGA) has suspended Hoarafushi Council President Mohamed Waheed for three months without pay following an inquiry into multiple allegations of financial and administrative misconduct. The decision comes after the LGA examined eight cases, including financial violations and failure to comply with regulations. Key issues identified include unauthorized spending on events, improper land allocations, and procurement irregularities. Waheed, as council president, was found primarily responsible for ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. The LGA has also recommended disciplinary action against the Secretary General and other staff for negligence. This is not the first time the LGA has taken such measures against local councils.
