Holhudhoo Residents Gain Reliable Water Access Following Completion of Infrastructure Project

Residents of Holhudhoo in Noonu Atoll now have access to a modernized water network following the successful completion and commissioning of a comprehensive water system project. The infrastructure project, which originally commenced in 2019, had remained unfinished at the conclusion of the previous government term. Work was subsequently accelerated under the current administration to ensure the community's needs were met. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, the system has undergone rigorous testing and is now fully operational. The commissioning ceremony was attended by State Minister Ismail Hameed, alongside technical staff from the ministry, the project contractor, the island council, and representatives from the state-owned utility provider, Fenaka Corporation Limited. The newly installed network is designed to provide a sustainable water supply for Holhudhoo's population of over 1,400 people. The technical specifications of the project include 6.6 kilometers of water distribution piping, two 60-tonne Reverse Osmosis (RO) desalination plants, and a 25-tonne rainwater treatment facility. To ensure consistent supply and resilience, the system is supported by two 350-tonne drinking water storage tanks and one 200-tonne rainwater storage tank. The Ministry confirmed that the next phase involves the formal handover of the system to Fenaka Corporation Limited, which will manage the daily operations and maintenance of the facility. This development is part of a larger infrastructure initiative contracted to Static Company Pvt Ltd. The company was tasked with constructing water and sewerage systems across 11 different islands under a broader USD 1.03 million project aimed at improving basic utilities across the archipelago.
