Homeland Security Minister Urges Women Police Officers to Assume Leadership Roles

Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan has called upon women within the Maldives Police Service (MPS) to cultivate leadership qualities and actively seek leadership roles within the institution. Speaking at a ceremony to mark Women in Policing Day on September 17, Minister Ihusaan emphasized that leadership is not defined solely by a formal rank or title. Instead, he highlighted that true leadership is rooted in confidence, initiative, and the courage to drive positive change. With more than 1,300 women currently serving in the MPS, women now constitute over 20 percent of the police force. The Minister encouraged these officers to take a proactive approach in resolving workplace challenges, sharing their unique perspectives and fostering a culture of collaboration. According to Minister Ihusaan, a true leader is someone who leads by example and delivers tangible results. He urged women officers to embody these characteristics to strengthen the operational capacity of the service. The event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Minister of Health, Family and Welfare Geela Ali and Police Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed. The annual celebration serves as a recognition of the vital role women play in maintaining law and order across the archipelago.
