Housing Applicants Urged to Resolve Information Discrepancies Via Boahiyaavahikan Portal

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has begun notifying applicants for flats and land plots regarding discrepancies in their submitted information. Applicants are now urged to regularly monitor the Boahiyaavahikan Portal to ensure their details are accurate and up to date. With 58,585 applications received under the national housing programme, the government has entered the verification phase. This stage focuses on scrutinizing property and land ownership records, as well as education, employment, and registry details, to ensure fair distribution. Speaking on PSM News’ Raajje Miadhu programme, State Minister Ahmed Nazim Mohamed explained that the verification process is managed by a fully automated platform. This system cross-references applicant data with records from island councils, city councils, and other relevant institutions across the Maldives. When the system flags an inaccuracy, the applicant is notified via the portal and granted a strict seven-day window to respond. Minister Nazim noted that discrepancies often arise because some local authorities may hold outdated records, or properties may be entangled in legal proceedings and inheritance disputes that have not been officially registered. Because applicants are best positioned to explain these nuances, the seven-day grace period allows them to provide evidence and correct the record. Failure to respond within the one-week timeframe will result in the opportunity to correct the information being closed. For those facing difficulties in gathering the necessary documentation within seven days, the Ministry advises notifying them through the portal immediately to initiate a resolution process. All procedures, including responses to discrepancies and the submission of supporting evidence, must be completed exclusively through the online portal. The Ministry emphasized that the automated system does not issue notifications in any specific order; therefore, consistent monitoring is essential. The government aims to finalize the entire verification process and publish the official list of recipients for the flats and land plots by December.
