Hulhumale Introduces Multiple Vehicle Parking Zones to Ease Traffic Congestion

Politics ·
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has established several vehicle parking zones in Hulhumale to address traffic congestion issues. These new parking spaces are designed for use by registered vehicles within the zone, aiming to streamline traffic flow. The parking zones, announced by HDC, include areas such as the vicinity of Hulhumale Flats and other key locations. Authorities believe this initiative will significantly improve traffic conditions in the area. A total of 1962 parking slots have been created across various zones, with the majority located in Hulhumale Phase II. Specific parking areas include Masjid Al-Waleedheen (115 slots), Gazee School (254 slots), Hiya Towers (1233 slots), and Venares (362 slots). In addition to the new parking facilities, authorities have initiated a towing operation targeting illegally parked vehicles across Hulhumale. So far, over 400 vehicles have been towed as part of this effort. HDC, in collaboration with transport authorities, has been conducting these operations over several days to ensure compliance with parking regulations. This includes towing vehicles parked illegally in various zones and those registered but parked outside designated areas. The government has emphasized that the construction of parking buildings in Malé and Hulhumale is a long-term solution to the parking crisis. While some discussions with stakeholders have taken place, no construction projects have commenced yet.
