Hulhumale' Opens Temporary Parking Zone for 1,200 Vehicles

A new temporary parking facility capable of accommodating over 1,200 vehicles opened in Hulhumale' Phase 2 on Sunday, providing much-needed relief for parking congestion in the greater Male' region. The facility, developed jointly by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), is located adjacent to the Cat Shelter. Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen inaugurated the zone during a special ceremony. Minister Ameen addressed the chronic problem of vehicles being parked on streets and public spaces due to limited designated parking areas. He expressed hope that this temporary solution would reduce road congestion if the public utilizes the designated spaces. HDC Managing Director Ali Zuhair reinforced the minister's comments, emphasizing the importance of immediate parking relief. He confirmed this temporary zone is part of a broader, more permanent strategy already underway. "There are already parking buildings being constructed in collaboration with the Ministry and HDC," Zuhair stated. According to ministry officials, the new facility provides legal and regulated parking exclusively for four-wheeled vehicles. This addition brings the total number of parking spaces provided by the Ministry across Hulhumale' to 2,500.
