Hussein Fahmee has been appointed Managing Director of the Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) announced Tuesday.
The board confirmed Fahmee's appointment as both board member and Managing Director, effective immediately.
Fahmee brings extensive experience in the Maldives' utility sector, having spent 27 years at the State Electric Company (STELCO). He began his career at STELCO in 1988 as a trainee and steadily advanced through the ranks to become General Manager.
In November, he was appointed Managing Director of STELCO, becoming one of the longest-serving employees to lead the state-owned electricity provider.
Following his tenure at STELCO, Fahmee served at the President's Office. His appointment to MWSC marks a continuation of his leadership role within state-owned utility enterprises.
The move places an experienced hand at the helm of the country's primary water and sewerage provider, as the utility continues its mission to deliver essential services to the capital's residents.
