Iconic Maldivian Film Director Abdul Faththah Passes Away Suddenly

Renowned Maldivian film director Abdul Faththah has passed away unexpectedly. According to reports, Faththah was rushed to Dhidhdhoo Hospital on Tuesday evening after experiencing chest pain while on Kelaa island in Haa Alif Atoll. Initial treatment was provided at the Kelaa Health Center before he was transferred as an emergency case. Faththah, born on December 6, 1971, was a celebrated filmmaker, producer, editor, screenwriter, and choreographer, widely regarded as one of the most successful figures in Maldivian cinema. His career was marked by numerous accolades, including four National Film Awards and two Maldives Film Awards. In recognition of his contributions, the Maldivian government honored him with a National Award in 2004. Faththah began his directing career with a video single after winning an inter-office teledrama competition. His first feature film, "Himeyn Dhuniye," was released in 2000, followed by "Ranmuiy." He gained prominence with the 2002 romantic drama and the horror film "Eynaa" (2004). His award-winning film "Vehey Vaarey Therein" (2003) earned him the National Film Award for Best Director. He later directed the critically acclaimed television series "Hinithun Velaashey Kalaa" and the romantic drama "Vaa Loabi Engeynama" (2006). His most successful film, the romantic horror "Jinni" (2010), earned him a nomination for Best Director at the Maldives Film Awards. Faththah retired from the film industry after the release of "Hahdhu" in 2017.
