Internal Audit Crucial for Local Councils: Minister

Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, emphasized the importance of internal audits for local councils during a recent conference. Speaking at the Local Councils Internal Audit Conference held in Stelco, organized by the Local Government Authority (LGA) and the Internal Audit Association of Maldives (IAAM), the Minister highlighted that internal audits are essential for ensuring that councils operate in a transparent, accountable, and efficient manner. He stated that internal audits play a critical role in identifying issues and providing solutions to improve public service delivery. The Minister also discussed the need for further strengthening financial laws to support councils in their operations. The conference aimed to promote best practices in internal auditing and to enhance the financial governance of local councils across the Maldives.
