Interpol Training in Addu City to Boost Maldives' Police Operational Capabilities
World ·
The Maldives is set to strengthen its national law enforcement capabilities following the completion of a high-level Interpol capacity-building initiative. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Abdul Rahman, head of the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement, urged officers to actively deploy the knowledge gained from the program to improve operational standards across the country.
The directive was issued during the closing ceremony of the Instructor Development Course, held at the college’s campus in Addu City. The specialized program, managed by Interpol’s Capacity Building and Training Directorate, aimed to transform experienced officers into certified instructors capable of leading future training cycles.
Assistant Commissioner Ahmed described the course as a vital institutional milestone for the Maldives. He emphasized that the ability to educate and empower fellow officers is a core duty of the police force, noting that the graduates of this program will now play a crucial role in building professional confidence and developing new training leaders within the service.
The initiative had significant diplomatic reach, bringing together 23 officers from 13 different countries across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East from September 27 to October 1. Beyond the technical training, the Assistant Commissioner highlighted the event's role in promoting the Maldives' regional prominence, encouraging the international delegates to act as ambassadors of Maldivian culture and heritage upon their return home.
Throughout the intensive course, participants focused on the science of instructional design using specialized Instructional Systems Design models. The curriculum was designed to build core competencies in public speaking, structured lesson planning, and audience engagement strategies. Additionally, the officers were trained in performance evaluation methodologies to ensure that future police training remains rigorous and effective.
By hosting such international programs, the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement continues to integrate the Maldives into global security networks while ensuring that local officers are equipped with world-class pedagogical skills to maintain law and order.
