Islamic Affairs Ministry Grants Over $77,000 to Religious NGOs Over Two Years

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments has provided more than USD 77,000 in financial assistance to religious organizations over the past two years, focusing on the development of Islamic endowments. Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, announced the figures during the Annual Meeting of Islamic NGOs 2026. He revealed that the total financial support amounted to approximately USD 77,628.92, distributed among various organizations dedicated to religious outreach and education. According to the Minister, the funding was strategically used to modernize religious infrastructure and education. Key investments included the establishment of Islamic studios and the procurement of essential equipment and resources specifically designed for Qur’an classes. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Shaheem emphasized the necessity of collaborative efforts within the sector. He urged organizations to work together, leveraging their individual strengths and resources to achieve shared religious and community objectives. This year's annual meeting brought together more than 60 representatives from 53 different organizations. The event was held under the theme 'Islamic Endowments in the 21st Century,' serving as a forum for leaders to discuss contemporary approaches to outreach, as well as the modern challenges and opportunities facing Islamic organizations in the Maldives today.
