Islamic Civilisation Forum Strengthens Dialogue Between Maldives and Uzbekistan on Global Challenges

Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has described the inaugural International Forum on Islamic Civilisation in Uzbekistan as a vital platform for addressing the complex challenges facing the modern world.
Speaking in an interview with an Uzbek media outlet, Dr Shaheem emphasized that the gathering provided a critical opportunity for scholars and intellectuals to engage in dialogue and exchange ideas. He praised Uzbekistan's commitment to reviving Islamic civilisation and preserving its extensive historical legacy, noting that the country serves as a positive example for the wider Islamic world.
Highlighting the shared values between the two nations, the Minister noted that both the Maldives and Uzbekistan are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). He underscored the deep-rooted bond they share within the Islamic Ummah, citing Uzbekistan's rich history of scholarship, wisdom, and intellectual achievement as a point of mutual respect.
Beyond religious and scholarly cooperation, Dr Shaheem touched upon the growing relationship between the two countries in the tourism sector. He noted the increasing number of Uzbek youth and tourists visiting the Maldives, stating that welcoming international visitors is a source of great pride and joy for Maldivians.
While acknowledging the Maldives' global reputation as a premier tourist destination, the Minister also lauded Uzbekistan for its own natural beauty and rich heritage. He expressed confidence that the Maldives could leverage its expertise to support the further development of Uzbekistan's emerging tourism industry.
By bridging the gap between traditional scholarship and modern development, the Minister indicated that such international forums are essential for fostering cooperation and finding collective solutions to contemporary global issues.
