Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has arrived in Saudi Arabia following a special invitation from the Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, Sheikh Dr Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh.
The visit centers on a high-level official consultation meeting between the two ministries. These discussions are expected to focus on enhancing religious cooperation and strengthening the existing framework of collaboration between the Maldives and the Kingdom.
In addition to the bilateral talks, Dr Shaheem is scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of the King Abdulaziz International Quran Competition, one of the world's most prestigious events for Quranic recitation and memorization.
Saudi Arabia has long played a pivotal role in the development of the Maldivian religious sector. This partnership is most evident in the ongoing support provided by the Saudi government to facilitate logistics and arrangements for Maldivian pilgrims performing Hajj, ensuring a smoother spiritual journey for citizens.
Diplomatic relations between the two nations were formally established on March 17, 1981. Since then, Saudi Arabia has remained a consistent partner in the Maldives' growth, providing critical financial aid and technical assistance across various development sectors.
This visit underscores the enduring friendship between the two countries and the shared commitment to fostering religious guidance and institutional development.
