Islamic Ministry Launches 79 Infrastructure Projects to Bolster Nationwide Religious Services

World ·
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments is currently executing 79 development projects across the Maldives to modernize and expand the country's Islamic infrastructure. The nationwide initiative aims to strengthen religious services and provide better facilities for communities across the various atolls. The comprehensive portfolio of works includes 45 mosque construction and development projects, 12 Islamic Centers, 16 National Centers for the Holy Quran, and six Waqf building projects. The ministry stated it is prioritizing efficiency and timely delivery to ensure these facilities serve their intended communities as quickly as possible. Among the most prominent developments are the construction of the Dhaarul Arqam Building in the capital, Malé, and the Dhaarussalam Waqf Building in Hulhumalé. These projects represent a significant investment in the administrative and educational capacity of the Islamic sector. A centerpiece of the ministry's current agenda is the upcoming construction of the Hulhumalé Grand Mosque. Physical work is slated to begin by September this year, with funding already secured through international support. Once completed, the facility will hold the distinction of being the largest mosque in the Maldives, serving as a landmark of architectural and spiritual significance. This surge in infrastructure development reflects a broader strategy to enhance the accessibility of religious education and worship spaces. By distributing these 79 projects across the archipelago, the government seeks to ensure that residents on distant islands have access to the same quality of Islamic services as those in the urban hubs of Malé and Hulhumalé.
