Islamic University of Maldives Launches $56,000 Grant Package to Boost Research

The Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) has unveiled five new grant schemes totaling USD 56,420 to accelerate scholarly research and academic innovation. Managed by the university's Centre for Research and Publications, these funds are designed to provide critical technical and financial support for studies that offer tangible benefits to Maldivian society. The initiative seeks to empower both academic staff and students by expanding their research capabilities and fostering a culture of knowledge creation. The funding is distributed across five distinct categories, with the IUM Research Promotion Scheme receiving the largest share at USD 25,940. Under this scheme, individual grants of up to USD 4,864 will be awarded to projects that promote the publication of new ideas. To drive practical solutions, the IUM Innovation Scheme has been allocated USD 12,970 to fund two high-impact projects. Further supporting the university's academic library, the Book Publication Opportunity provides up to USD 2,594 per book for the writing, translation, and compilation of essential texts, with a total fund of USD 6,485. Recognizing the importance of advanced degrees, the Postgraduate Research Grant Scheme will offer up to USD 811 per project for Master's and PhD students. Additionally, the university has set aside USD 1,621 per instance for the Conference Travel Grant, enabling staff to present their findings at international academic forums. Priority areas for these grants include Islamic studies, economics and finance, law, technology, education, and government reform policies, as well as human sciences and linguistics. These focus areas align with the university's goal of addressing contemporary societal challenges through academic rigor. Interested applicants must submit their proposals via the university's designated Google Forms. The deadline for all applications is the 15th of next month.
