The Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) has officially opened applications for its second-semester intake, offering a diverse range of 67 courses across various academic disciplines. The university aims to expand access to higher education by providing flexible learning options for students across the archipelago. The available programs span multiple fields, including Sharia law, Qur’an and Hadith, Fiqh, Islamic Studies, and Imamship. Beyond religious studies, the university is offering courses in Finance, Accounting, Management, Leadership and Administration, Language Education, and Journalism. Speaking on PSM News’ Raajje Miadhu programme, Dr. Aishath Sheena, Dean of IUM’s Kulliyah of Education, described the intake as a prime opportunity for students, including those who have recently completed their A-Levels. To ensure inclusivity, Dr. Sheena highlighted that students can access education from their home islands through a blend of online classes and physical instruction. Physical classes will be conducted at IUM's main campuses and seven regional centers, including campuses in R. Ungoofaaru, Lh. Naifaru, L. Fonadhoo, Thinadhoo City, Fuvahmulah City, and two locations in Addu City (Hithadhoo and Maradhoo Feydhoo). The university's comprehensive academic offering for this semester includes one PhD program, 15 master's degrees, 16 bachelor's degrees, one associate degree, 11 diploma programs, 22 certificate courses, and one post-diploma course. Dr. Sheena noted that the Master’s in Teaching Higher Education and Master’s in Research Publication serve as strategic pathways for students aspiring to pursue PhD studies. Additionally, a Diploma in Special Education is being offered in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to enhance teacher training for children with special needs. Dr. Mohamed Solih, Assistant Professor at IUM’s Centre for Research and Publications, also highlighted the Certificate Level 4 in Spiritual Intelligence Counselling, which focuses on providing counseling based on Islamic principles.
