Israel Tops Global List for Most Journalist Deaths in a Single Year
Politics ·
Israel has been identified as the country with the highest number of journalist deaths in the world for the third consecutive year, according to a report by Reporters Without Borders (RSF). The report highlights that out of 67 journalists killed worldwide in the past year, 29 were targeted in Gaza by Israeli military operations. RSF stated that Israel's actions in Gaza have made it the most dangerous place for journalists this year. Since the Israel-Hamas conflict began in October 2023, 220 journalists have been killed, with 43% of these deaths occurring in Gaza due to Israeli strikes. The deadliest attack occurred on August 25, when multiple journalists were killed in a strike near a hospital in Gaza. The report also noted that Israel has labeled Palestinian journalists as 'terrorists,' making them vulnerable to targeted attacks. RSF has called for the International Criminal Court to address these incidents.
