Izaam Zahir Sentenced to 15 Years for Rape After Surrendering to Police

Izaam Zahir, a 25-year-old man from Sabaaha Manzil, GDh. Vaadhoo, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for rape. Zahir had been on the run since July 2024 but surrendered to the police on Saturday. Over the course of one and a half years, the police issued nine public announcements seeking his capture. On Tuesday, Zahir was found guilty in a closed-door trial, the details of which remain confidential due to the sensitive nature of the case.
